“to protect the privacy of our team, we will be using nicknames throughout interviews after the first article of this series. This is done precisely because some of our team members have other professional commitments and/or hold public office that preclude them from pursuing certain work or interest outside their capacities.”
JayJay Profile
JayJay- our product manager- comes from a diverse background involving both science and business. He has extensive experience academically having gained a PhD in Fluid Mechanics as well as lecturing on the theory of supersonic flights lectures to Civil Aviation students, and presenting his work in international conferences.
He initially started his career as an engineer working in aeronautics and oil&gas for 10 years. This involved working as both an engineer and also a project manager.
“I worked on complex problem solving by first gathering experimental data and then building numerical models with them. I was eventually able to sell them after encapsulating those into a commercial software,” he tells us.
He also holds an MBA from Paris Sorbonne Business School, in order to bring a business vision into his significant technical and scientific knowledge. Most recently, in the last two years, he decided to become a consultant in corporate strategy mostly working with SMEs and start-ups to establish strategic proposals for their future. It was this work that brought JayJay into the world of crypto.
“I worked on some Crypto Projects directly by using my project management skills while understanding the technical aspect of Blockchain projects,” he explains.
Consequently he came on board with Formation Fi in February of 2022. JayJay’s significant experience working in complex problem solving in his roles as an engineer and a project manager meant he had the natural mindset to work on the complexities of Formation Fi’s product, with its intersection of subjects and technologies. JayJay has worked on a huge range or projects. This includes a Cold Plasma process in the Space industry creating satellite mirrors; developing models and software to simulate gas interaction with Carbon Nanotubes; developing models and software to help safely maintain and sail liquid cargo in shipping, and even the development of a metaverse art gallery, teaching offline artists how to turn their work into NFTs.
JayJay details how this relates to his work as the product manager:
“The aim of a project is essentially to achieve a particular goal in given time frame. And the best way to do it, is actually to split it into multiple simple tasks. This allows me to design a road map, The Eiffel Release Road Map.”
He also deploys agile management software tools in order to coordinate actions with the teams and actively participate into turning the different concepts into a product. Agile methodology is a way to manage a project by breaking it up into multiple phases. It involves constant collaboration with the different stakeholders and therefore it brings continuous improvement at each stage. This means that at each release, team can significantly improve the quality of its software, whilst also meaning team can change quickly.
JayJay tells us how this improves his work with Formation Fi:
“This allows me to be more precise in my interaction with management of the team for the functionality of the product, its designs in terms of layout but also in terms of architecture.”
JayJay can see the benefits of Formation Fi’s work from an investment perspective. He feels it solves three main issues of crypto investment. Notably that it streamlines the process of choosing which assets or coins to invest in, saving investors huge amounts of time.
“You usually need to go on their web page, their community social media, etc. and just read, ask questions, and try to understand by yourself. Here, the asset manager is supposed to track, not only one, but a wide number of assets,” he says.
What’s more Formation Fi’s approach means the approach mutualises the cost of asset trades while also having exposure to a wide range of assets. JayJay also particularly notes how Formation Fi manages risk is incredibly beneficial to the user. As he concludes:
“It is well known that Crypto assets are highly volatile, so it is very risky, But the concept of Risk Parity that Formation Fi brings to DeFi is new in crypto world. This will protect the user when they could not do it by themselves.”
