Some people shine in business. Others make their mark in academia. Ravi Kashyap has accomplished impressive things in both arenas. In business, he held pioneering roles in the financial services industry. In academia, his PhD dissertation, “Uncertainty, Unintended Consequences and Everything Else,” was groundbreaking.

Now, Ravi is joining the Formation Fi Team as Head of Quantitative Research. The specialized expertise he brings to risk-adjusted portfolio of decentralized open financial crypto assets in the form of algorithmically rebasing indexes.

While working in financial services, Ravi grew multi-million dollar products and set strategy for multi-billion dollar service divisions. With particular focus on mathematical modeling, he highlighted how these models were both used and abused in business. This helped Ravi find solutions to the problems faced by small and medium sized enterprises. Eventually, he transitioned to academia to focus on research.

In the academic world, Ravi received a Bachelor of Technology at the National Institute of Technology Calicut. He completed an MBA at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University and was awarded a PhD in economics and finance at the City University of Hong Kong.

Ravi’s Google Scholar page shows that he’s a prolific researcher and publisher. Much of his work focuses on uncertainty, optimization and decision making. Other financial topics Ravi covers include market microstructure, securities lending strategies, and the intersection of financial markets and the social sciences.

Beyond finance, Ravi has done novel work in artificial intelligence/machine learning, ecology and evolution, and problem solving. His publications have been cited hundreds of times. ‘Involvement’ is Ravi’s favorite word.
